![]() SCOTT KELLY HEAD COACH Coach Kelly begins his third season as head coach after serving as an assistnat for ten seasons. In his inagural season, Coach Kelly led the Trojans to a state runner-up finish in class AAAAA. His first squad finish second in region 6AAAAA and completed their playoff run with a final record of 26-10. He took over in the summer of 2010 for Hall of Fame coach, Mickey Mcmurtry. Coach Kelly came on board as a coach just prior to the National Championship season in 1999. The success of the program continued in the 2000s as Coach Kelly has served his alma mater over the past decade. He has been a part of two state championships (1999, 2006), four state runners-up (2000, 2002, 2005, 2010), and five region championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008). Coach Kelly primarily worked with the infielders and directed the baserunners as an assistant.
Prior to Coach Kelly coming back to coach at Lassiter, he excelled at both the junior college and Division II level. After completing a successful playing career at Lassiter in 1993, he took his talents to Gordon Junior College in Barnesville. He played middle infield for legendary coach Tom Clark. After two years at Gordon, Scott traveled across the state to play for Coach Skip Fite at Augusta State University. It is worth noting that his high school days where spent playing for two well-known and extremely successful coaches in Georgia history-Jeff Guy and Mickey McMurtry.
Upon being hired full-time at Lassiter in 2001, he also joined the Fastpitch staff. In 2002, he became the second head coach of the Lassiter Fastpitch team. After winning region championships in 2002, 2006, 2007 and a state runners-up finish in 2002, the Lassiter Fastpitch team reached the pinnacle when they won the 2007 AAAAA State Championship. They won another region championship in 2009 under Coach Kelly’s leadership. The Fastpitch Trojans have won over 200 games since Coach Kelly took over in 2002. Coach Kelly received his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Kennesaw State after completing his playing days at Augusta State. In 2008, he added a master’s degree in Educational Leadership, also from KSU. Scott’s wife, Courtney, also teaches in Cobb County, where she is a special education teacher at Ford Elementary in west Cobb. They have two sons, Kade (8) and Rennen (6).
KYLE RUSTAY Kyle Rustay
begins his sixth year on staff. He continues to serve as the
outfield coach after directing the Lassiter pitching staff in 2009.
Coach Rustay moved south to Georgia in July of 2005 after coaching
baseball for seven years at East Jessamine High School in Nicholasville,
Kentucky. His stint at East Jessamine included a year as the varsity
head coach. Coach Rustay is a graduate of Jessamine County High School
where he was a four year letter winner in baseball and cross country.
He received his undergraduate degree from Transylvania University, then
went on to complete his masters degree from the University of Kentucky,
both located in Lexington. While at Transylvania, Kyle was a three year
starter in the outfield and graduated with a degree in Business
Administration.
GEORGE SEAMAN
George Seaman returns
for his sixth season after a brief stint at Kell. He returned to his
familiar duties running the JV program. Coach Seaman served as the JV
coach from 1992-1995 and again in 2002. From 1996-1999, Coach Seaman
worked as an assistant coach on the varsity squad where he played a key
role in the success of the 1999 State and National Championship team.
KURT RINEHIMER
Michael Fraker Coach Michael Fraker will join the Lassiter baseball staff this year with the responsibility of coaching the pitching staff. Coach Fraker is a 1987 graduate of North Cobb High School where he played three years for Georgia baseball legend Harvey Cochran. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Secondary Education, History, at Kennesaw State University and is currently working toward his Masters Degree in Educational Administration from Liberty University. Coach Fraker began his baseball coaching career in 1994 at Lithia Springs High School. After two seasons, he moved back to Cobb County and served as an assistant coach at South Cobb High School. In the fall of 2001 he took the opportunity to move to Sprayberry High School, where he was able to work with Coach Terry Cadenhead during the final four seasons of his 520 win, Hall of Fame career. When the head coaching position at Osborne High School was offered, Coach Fraker took the position and spent the past six years working to return that program to respectability. In early June of 2011, Lassiter called, and Coach Fraker jumped at the opportunity to work with Coach Kelly at one of the premier baseball programs in America. Coach Fraker remains a resident of Cobb County and has two children who he is extremely proud of always. His daughter, Hayden, is a junior at Kell and his son Brantley is a freshman at Lassiter.
Chad Cannon Coach Chad Cannon joins the Lassiter baseball staff for the 2012 season after coaching for six years at Kennesaw Mountain HS. Coach Cannon is a 2000 graduate of South Cobb High School where he was a 4 year varsity letterman. Upon graduating from South Cobb, Coach Cannon continued his baseball career at Andrew Junior College, where he played from 2000-02. Upon completion of his Associates Degree from Andrew, Coach Cannon completed his degree at Kennesaw State where he studied Sports Management. Coach Cannon's coaching career at Kennesaw Mountain spanned from 2003-2007 and again from 2010-2011. During that time, Coach Cannon served in a number of roles including Head JV Coach from 2005-2007, hitting/infield coach for both the JV and Varsity teams, and most recently as the hitting/3rd base coach. Coach Cannon played a vital role in the success of the Kennesaw Mountain teams of the mid 2000s and helped guide them to a state runner-up finish in 2007. Coach Cannon works as a Sales Manager for Lonesourse in Norcross. He and his wife Lauren, who is a Title 1 teacher at Ragsdale Elementary in Paulding County, reside in Dallas and are expecting the birth of their first son at the end of April.
Adam Baker Coach Adam Baker joins the Lassiter Baseball staff this year as the JV pitching coach after playing for the Trojans during his high school career. Coach Baker graduated from Lassiter in 2006 where he played on the 2006 State Championship team under Coach Mickey McMurtry. Coach Baker was undefeated while pitching for the Trojans, including going 4-0 as a starting pitcher in the state playoffs. He went on to play Division I baseball at Western Carolina for two years before transferring to North Georgia College & State University for his final two years of eligibility. Coach Baker earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from NGCSU in 2010, and plans to begin work on his Master's Degree in Education this year. The Lassiter baseball field will always be a special place to the Bakers as that is where Coach Baker proposed to his wife Elizabeth, also a Lassiter alum. Elizabeth works for a marketing firm in Atlanta and the two reside in Marietta. |
